Marysia and online dressageMarysia from Poland is a member of the Sandro Hero Dressage Team, where she learned about Dressage Anywhere from her trainer. We caught up to find out more about this lovely partnership.

How did you get into horses? And what age were you?

I am 14 years old now and I started to ride horses when I was seven at the stables close to my home. I watched my friend riding horses at my neighbour's and decided it was something I would like to do as well. I was very happy when my friend's Mum agreed to give me my first lessons. It was on Fuks, a big chestnut gelding. He is still my 'professor' when I try out difficult exercises for the first time. I rode occasionally until 2015 when Ganimedes was bought! This started a very exciting adventure in my life. Ganimedes is a really lovely small pony, with a very kind character - perfect for me from the very first moment. We started to train in dressage together and our first competition took place in 2016. We are really good partners. I spend all my spare time with Gani. He likes to walk with me and do some extra tricks from the ground next to our dressage training. Im really proud of what we achieved together.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!

I take part in all different kinds of competition. Dressage, jumping and even tried bitless riding but definitely dressage is the one I like the most. Together with Ganimedes we have won regional championship in my age class: children on pony this year.

Tell us a bit more about your horse

Ganimedes is a nine year old bay pony.

Where did you find each other and how long have you been a partnership?

We have been working together for four years now - this started when my trainer bought him in 2015.

Have you got any interesting or funny stories about your horse?

I really enjoy spending time with Ganimedes and playing with him from the ground. It's really special when he comes to me when I call him and he follows without any leading. He learns very fast and can do small tricks when I ask him.

What level do you compete at?

I compete at junior level in Poland.

How do you prepare for a dressage test? Any top tips?

Usually I draw a test on paper. When I see it I can learn it better. I use every opportunity to repeat it in my head - especially before I fall asleep. In addition I also practice on foot in the garden - it's then easier for me to ride it when I sit on Ganimedes.

What horsey product or item could you not live without and why?

Ganimedes is very sensitive to flies so I cannot imagine riding without proper protection (I use coconut oil his body and I put a special net on his head). I know Gani enjoys his food, so I always have something small for him in my pocket like a piece of bread or carrot.

What are your goals for the future? What do you want to achieve in 2019?

I already achieved my goal this year :) winning the regional championship!

What's your biggest challenge?

My trainer says that my biggest challenge is to concentrate on the task. I often get distracted so I'm working on myself to be better and a better rider every day.

What's your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement is winning the regional championship this year. I also achieved points for my sport class!

What's your favourite thing about Dressage Anywhere?

I really like the fact that every month there are completely different tests to ride. In Poland we have a limited number of tests and they are often the same at competitions.

What would you say to someone just getting started in dressage?

Chill and relax :) Feel your horse and keep on practicing. Don't focus on days when things don't go according to plan. Just keep on smiling - next time will be the better ride.
